Datemyschool Undercover Investigation: Final Installment

As much as we at NRS strive to keep our readers informed, certain missions can grow to be too much, even for these tireless journalists. One such mission, sadly, is the world of nerdy online dating. NRS attempted to give the readers what they want and went to the effort of creating a profile. And this was not without personal sacrifice as the photos (see below) used for the account are of not_me. As the investigation now draws to a close, we will attempt to share the knowledge that has been learned throughout the course of this experiment.

First, the only thing standing between you and lots of creepy men is probably Kristen Chenoweth’s hair (literally) and Lindsay Lohan’s make-up bag (figuratively). Now we know that blondes really do have more fun (?).

If you would prefer that the messages you receive have some content other than “Hey what’s up?” “Let’s chat” “are you looking for something casual” or “beautiful pics” probably you should add some content to the profile other than photos of not_me. And that content should say that you hate fake banana flavor. This is key to creating interest in a profile, apparently. It seems that fake banana flavor, like throwing up in public, is one of those things that NOBODY likes, and yet it’s all you need to have in common with someone to get a marriage proposal on datemyschool.com. Of course, on Okcupid, all it takes is Kristen Chenoweth’s hair, you don’t even need to hate fake banana flavor. Awesome.

Okcupid lets other users see how often a person responds to messages (responds often, responds selectively, etc). Sadly, we have to admit that NRS responded to exactly 0 of the messages received on Okcupid… it’s unclear how this affected the quantity or quality of incoming messages. We apologize for any skewing of the data presented in the table below due to this fact.

Unfortunately, actual lab work prevented this NRS journalist from really committing to the investigation. The set up of datemyschool requires that you be online at all times if you want anyone to look at

your profile with out searching specifically for you (or fake banana flavor), a time commitment that could only be made for about the first hour of the investigation before the men from the MIT school of engineering all started to sound the same and the initial novelty of judging other peoplehad warn off. If any of our readers should choose to explore the world of datemyschool after this exposé, we do encourage them to put in a little more effort.

Okcupid seems to have similar expectations of your time (although NRS never completed that profile, so it’s unclear if actual matching occurs when there is a complete profile). However, the much larger sample size on OkCupid allows for greater profile viewage. NRS’s Okcupid profile was viewed an average of 114 times per week. Datemyschool does not calculate an average but this NRS journalist has measured very accurately by assessing what she feels to be true, and has determined that not_me’s datemyschool profile averaged 4 views per week. Lame.

While the quantity of datemyschool’s messages and profile views was dismal compared with Okcupid’s, perhaps the quality was better. We have assembled a summary table to let you judge for yourself below.

NRS apologizes for the inability to fully commit to the investigation, but we do hope that the questions our readers had about the world of datemyschool have been answered. Now that we have officially wrapped the investigation (at least until my cohesin proteins really start to crap out and I get desperate and steal Kristen Chenoweth's hair for real), NRS just needs to figure out how to make the creepy messages stop…
